BRAINSTORMING.......

Ok....we have been throwing ideas around for a long time about a new patrol room.....I would like to get this all down on paper, so that we do not overlook any possibilities.

So let's hear it...what are your thoughts on the requirements of our next patrol room??
  • LOCATION..new building? move existing? use an existing facility???
  • AMENITIES..treatment room requirements? locker room? family area? hot tub?
  • REQUIREMENTS..ski-in/out? ambulance access? parking?

Don't hold back...lets get every idea, no matter how far-fetched, out on the table.....who knows what the ultimate result will be, but the more input the better..

Also, keep in mind how we can sell these ideas to management...specifically how they will make Boyne a better/safer/more enjoyable ski experience for our guests.

Please use the reply button below to add your comments, rather that starting a new post...easier to track that way..

Patrol Room BRAINSTORMING....

Being the engineer that I am, I start thinking about developing a functional spec of what we want our "new Patrol room" or patrol facilities to provide first. Then once we have agreement on this spec, then we can DESIGN or specify what facilities we desire and where. As a builder and designer, I'm sure you are way ahead of me on this.

From a macro perspective it would helpful for us if we developed a VISION of what the Boyne Patrol will look like 10 years or more years from now.
What services do we provide Boyne?
How will we provide those services?
How will the Patrol be structured and many Patrollers will we need?
(Is this Vision integrated into the Boyne Mtn plan/vision?)

Patrol Room Functional Specification:

PATROL OPERATIONS:
General - All areas where we interface with and provide service to customers should project a professional decor and atmosphere, like one would expect to see in a medical clinic, with good lighting, safe easy access to the building and bathrooms, sanitary and easily cleaned, etc.

Primary Patient Treatment area(s) to accommodate those hauled in via toboggan - Snowmobile, ambulance and customer vehicle access are required; Treatment area for 4 examination beds required, with capabilities of expanding to 6?? in an emergency if needed. Fully stocked with the supplies required for treatment.

Secondary Patient Treatment area(s) to accommodate the walking wounded who typically would walk into the patrol room if it was conveniently located - - Snowmobile, ambulance and customer vehicle access need to be available, but not needed as much as the Primary Treatment Area. Treatment area for 2 to 3, possibly one examination bed; Ideally this would be centrally located for easy customer access. This area is also stocked with the supplies required for treatment of anything that could walk through the door.

Storage and Security Area(s) for backboards, traction splints, toboggans, evac gear, oxygen, portable emergency first aid supply kit, CPR manikins, bamboo, hill signs, rechargeable bamboo drill, snowmobiles, Gator or other similar vehicle, etc.
Ease of access and distribution (via snowmobile or lift) is desired/needed.

Control and Dispatch) - Location or locations of the central base radio station for the receipt and handling of radio and telephone calls from area management, lift ops, on the hill patrollers, ambulances and the focal point for the coordination of Patrol emergency responses

Paid Patrol - Storage for personal gear and facilities for daily personal needs compatible with our desires/needs

PATROL ADMINISTRATION:
Patroller Daily Sign-In and Sign-Out - Consideration should be given to convenient access to parking and lockers; (are we going to stick with a paper system or go computer; plan for future)

Daily communications such as team assignments, updates, directions and informational updates are given and/or posted

Patrol Leadership interface - Specific location for the Patrol Leader and Patroller to discuss a specific need, request, or other matter

Distribution of Lift and meal tickets - Consider the convenience to the patroller while providing the needed/desired control (It might be interesting to revisit what control is really needed, as there may be a better alternative approach then the tickets we are using today)

Accident Reports - Consideration for the completion, turn in, review, logging, etc.

Patroller Day Area(s) - Location and use of the storage/locker area for patrollers who do not have lockers or for visiting Patrollers. Quantity??

Dispatch area for Patrollers waiting to respond to accidents in the treatment areas or via snowmobile.

COMMUNITY NEEDS:
A welcome and secure convenient meeting spot(s) for Patrollers and family members to meet, wait, socialize, leave messages/tickets; Size ???

A convenient common gathering spot(s) big enough so Patrollers can see and interact with each other, especially at daily opening and closing. Size ???

Food & Celebration Area(s) - A spot where Patrollers and families can gather, share food/goodies or eat meals and socialize. Size ???

Meeting Spot(s) if desired/needed. Same area could be used for limited teaching, instructing, or testing/exams. Size ???

Convenient and conducive facilities and environment to welcome non-Boyne patrollers including potential candidates or visiting patrollers (transfers). Size ???

The SOLUTION???
Going through this exercise, one can't help but start thinking about what the solution might be for our facilities. Without going into a lot of thought, my mind did wonder if we had a PRIMARY patrol room possibly near where we are now and combo SECONDARY patrol room and COMMUNITY FACILITY near the Convention Center (the old patrol room??) if we could make that work well for us. If this looked advantageous, it would be nice to try it this winter in a transition plan.

If we get the old room back - Maybe we can get a gurney and wheel to the elavator, through the tunnel under the waterpark and out a door in front
