Recruiting idea

Good summer to all.
An idea to show our need of new patrollers. Allow us a information tent during a couple weekends, similar to the ski demo tents & location. I feel there are people who would like to join, but just don't know how to get started. This would bring us to them sorta speak.

Great idea Paul....it seems that just being super cool is not as big a draw as it used to be..

I'm sure we all agree that we have to increase our numbers. Getting out into the community, per Paul's suggestion, is a great start. Maybe a subcommittee of 3-4 patrollers - all from different parts of the state - can come up with some ideas for attending targeted functions in their respective areas in an effort to do this. Auxilliary patrollers are also worth considering - competant people willing to help out in the patrol room would benefit our overall performance. Mike Cornell, Jim Parker, Dan Wright, Dan Dryden, and Joe Wright form a great core of on-the-hill teachers, so, who knows, maybe some of those auxillaries will eventually graduate to senior status. I know it's best to find candidates that are good skiiers and train them rather than training those who are beginners. However, in order to grow the patrol, we need to have a number of people who are willing to put in the time. By not accepting competant auxillaries, we're limiting our potential for growth. I believe, although am not certain, that auxillaries can not wear "the coat". The public will still see us as "the best skiing patrol" in Michigan because our auxillaries would not be marked on the hill....and we are the best.

Reg said it best. We need a long term vision to work towards. 'The best patrol in Michigan' is certaintly a good place to start.
